Silver Spring, Md. (7/21/17) –   On arlshowcaseTuesday, June 27th, business owners, prospective entrepreneurs and federal researchers gathered at Energetics Technology Center’s TechFire® incubator in White Oak to explore technologies available for license, and other R&D partnership and commercialization opportunities with scientists and engineers from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL). The event was co-sponsored by the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC).

Located adjacent to the FDA campus in White Oak, ARL’s mission is to “discover, innovate, and transition science and technology to ensure dominant strategic land power”. ARL has a rich history of partnerships with industry and academia, and is an ardent supporter of technology transfer to the private sector in order to benefit both the warfighter and the nation. In 2013, ARL launched a new Open Campus Program which seeks to facilitate interactions and collaborations between ARL scientists and engineers in order to spur innovation and support small businesses and start-ups through increased licensing and collaboration opportunities.

During the technology showcase, ARL’s researchers presented their lab’s work and capabilities related to 3-D holographic and polarimetric imaging, micro-robotics/micro-actuators, cold spray technologies, and other technologies available for commercialization. A networking lunch followed, providing attendees the chance to network with ARL researchers and discuss possible collaborations and research synergies.

“To diversify our local economy, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship, we need to leverage our resources, and ARL is one of our region’s truly outstanding assets,” said David Petr, CEO of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC).  MCEDC is the county’s newly privatized economic development organization, and is a co-sponsor of the event.

The workshop was held at ETC’s TechFire® incubator facility to provide private sector partners the opportunity to learn about the business support services available to entrepreneurs, technology start-ups, and small businesses. Additionally, the event included representatives from state-wide organizations to describe the mentoring, funding and networking opportunities available to technology start-ups across Maryland.

“ETC is excited to host networking events like this that are critical to both the region, and to the mission of organizations like ARL”, said Bob Kavetsky, CEO of ETC.
