ETC is hiring Resource Teachers and Near Peer Mentors for multiple temporary positions.
The National Defense Education Program’s RoboMasters is a joint Army and Navy STEM initiative in intelligent robotics. This new program has an after-school component for elementary through middle school and a summer program for high school students. If you are interested in introducing students to the world of engineering and robotics and a desire to guide students typically underrepresented in STEM, this is the program for you.
RoboMasters is seeking resource teachers (RTs) and near peer mentors (NPMs) to help launch and support this exciting new program. Spend your summer introducing the excitement of engineering and robotics to a new generation of innovators. Applicants will also have an opportunity to support the after-school program during the academic year as well as next year’s onsite summer camps.
Duration of employment is flexible but require a minimum of a 4-week commitment during the summer 2023. Opportunities are available for part-time employment during the academic year to support after-school programs.
Expected start dates are July 17, 2023. These are hybrid positions, requiring on-site presence a minimum of two-days a week at ARL’s Robotics Research and Collaboration Campus, Middle River, MD. Additional opportunities include assisting in robotics summer camps on July 24- 28 and August 7 – 11, 2023.
RTs will serve as advisors/mentors throughout the program; helping bridge instructional and learning gaps between the students and the Army and Navy scientists and engineers. Working with Army and Navy scientists, RTs will develop curriculum and content, instruct, and help to create laboratory documentation. RTs must have STEM experience, be US Citizens and have a teaching degree or certificate. They will receive a competitive stipend based on education level and experience.
NPMs are responsible for guiding student participants through a variety of engineering and robotics concepts and hands on activities. NPMs will assist with learning activities, serve as role models and act as resources concerning college life and career pathways. NPMs must have engineering and robotics experience, be US citizens and be 18 years of age by 1 September 2023. They will receive a competitive stipend based on completed semester hours and experience.
As a temporary consultant or contractor, this position is not eligible for benefits.
