Resource Teacher / Near Peer Mentor

The National Defense Education Program’s RoboMasters is a joint Army and Navy STEM initiative in intelligent robotics. This new program has an after-school component for elementary through middle school and a summer program for high school students. If you are interested in introducing students to the world of engineering and robotics and a desire to guide students typically underrepresented in STEM, this is the program for you.

RoboMasters is seeking resource teachers (RTs) and near peer mentors (NPMs) to help launch this exciting new program by introducing the excitement of engineering and robotics to a new generation of innovators. Applicants will also have an opportunity to support the after-school program during the academic year as well as next year’s onsite summer camps.

Opportunities are available for part-time employment during the academic year to support after-school programs. Expected start dates are September 15, 2023. These are hybrid positions, requiring on-site presence to teach/co-teach classes. Training on the curriculum is also hybrid, requiring on-site presence occasionally for the hands-on experiential part of the curriculum. Applicants can choose to support the program in Harford, Baltimore and/or Charles Counties Maryland.
RTs will serve as advisors/mentors throughout the program; helping bridge instructional and learning gaps between the students and the Army and Navy scientists and engineers. Working with Army and Navy scientists, RTs will develop curriculum and content, instruct, and help to create laboratory documentation. RTs must have STEM experience, be US Citizens and have a teaching experience. They will receive a competitive stipend based on education level and experience.

NPMs are responsible for guiding student participants through a variety of engineering and robotics concepts and hands on activities. NPMs will assist with learning activities, serve as role models and act as resources concerning college life and career pathways. NPMs must have engineering and robotics experience, be US citizens and be 18 years of age by 1 June 2024. They will receive a competitive stipend based on completed semester hours and experience.
