Energetics Technology Center Celebrates Groundbreaking of the Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. – May 2026 – The Energetics Technology Center (ETC), in partnership with the American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation (ACMI), celebrated the groundbreaking of the Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub (MEIH), a new campus designed to modernize manufacturing and improve production capacity across the energetics enterprise.

The Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub represents a major investment in the future of the nation’s energetics industrial base. Located within the Western Charles County Technology Corridor; near Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head, the Hub will bring together government, industry, and academic partners to advance next-generation energetics technologies and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities to support the warfighter.

ETC is partnering with ACMI to help shape the Hub as a center for collaboration, technology development, workforce growth, and advanced manufacturing. Through this partnership, ETC will support efforts to connect emerging technologies with operational needs and create new opportunities for companies developing energetic-related capabilities.

“Southern Maryland has long been a cornerstone of the nation’s energetics enterprise, and the Maryland Energetics Innovation Hub builds on that strong foundation,” said William Durant, CEO & President of ETC. “ETC is excited to work alongside ACMI and NSWC Indian Head Division to advance critical technologies and support the next generation of capabilities for the nation’s warfighters.”

The Hub is being developed following a $50 million award from Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division to ACMI and is expected to attract significant additional private-sector investment while expanding research, testing, and manufacturing capabilities throughout the region.

The groundbreaking marks the beginning of a long-term effort to strengthen collaboration across the defense industrial base while positioning Southern Maryland as a leading area for energetics innovation and advanced manufacturing.
